Thomas Hudgell

and Emma Radley

During the past few years I have researched Thomas Hudgell and Emma Radley thinking that

these were my great great great grandparents, but have now found out that this is not so.

As you can see from Thomas's story he had a life of crime which cut short his life, so was only

married to Emma for less than 3 years, after this she took to living with James Bettis who

seemed to be the love of her life, they went on to have 9 children, not marrying until 1868.

Some of the early children were given the name of Hudgill but this was only from Emma's

married name and not through blood lines. Other than her first child who sadly died as an

infant all the children were fathered by James Bettis, and it wasn't until Arthur in 1852 that

they took the Bettis name and for the generations thereafter.
